Stone Soup
Stone soup is a wonderful story to share with children in a
group setting (daycare, school, church, Brownies, etc). Share the story
one day, the next day have all the children bring a ziploc baggie of chopped up
vegetables, herbs and/or spices (you can assign things to bring for a well
rounded soup or let the children bring whatever they like for a mystery
pot).
Have the adult scrub a stone very clean (you can purchase river
rocks that are quite clean from garden or craft stores) and bring that -- an
adult can also bring a ham bone or some chopped up pieces of meat. As a
group, make a pot of stone soup and let everyone taste it.
A lot of venues may not have a place to cook up the soup, but
even if you take it home and bring it back the next day the kids will still
enjoy the process.
