Kandinsky-Inspired Flower Craft for Kids

Age group: Kindergarten through Grade 3

Kandinsky inspired flowersUnleash your child's inner artist with this delightful Kandinsky-Inspired Flower Craft! Perfect for children from Kindergarten to Grade 3, this craft is inspired by abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky's famous circle paintings. Children will explore shape, color, and pattern as they create their unique and vibrant flower designs.

You can choose between cut-out paper or painting methods for crafting the flowers, or even use a combination of both! And the fun doesn't stop there. Once the flowers are ready, we'll create a beautiful garden scene by adding stems and leaves. This hands-on craft is not just fun, but also a great way to introduce children to the world of abstract art. So, let's gather our materials and let the crafting begin!

Materials:

Note: You can either create the flower circles using cut-out paper or paint, or a combination of both.

Instructions:

Part 1: Preparation

  1. For the Cut-out Paper Method: Choose several colors of construction paper. You will cut circles from this paper to make your Kandinsky-inspired flower.
  2. For the Painting Method: Choose your paints and ready your brushes. Use a paper plate as a palette.

Part 2: Creating the Circles

  1. Cut-out Paper Method:

a. Begin by selecting a piece of construction paper for your first circle. Fold the paper in half.

b. Near the fold, draw half of a circle shape starting from the fold. This will ensure a perfect circle when you cut it out. For younger children, an adult can draw the circles for them to cut out.

c. Cut out the half circle, then unfold it. You have your first circle!

d. Repeat this process with different colors and sizes of circles.

  1. Painting Method:

a. To create painted circles, use a brush to paint a circle onto a piece of paper.

b. You can change colors and create smaller circles inside the bigger ones.

c. Allow the paint to dry completely.

Part 3: Assembling the Flowers

  1. For the Cut-out Paper Method: Begin by choosing your largest circle. This will be the base of your flower.
  2. Apply glue to the back of a smaller circle and press it into the center of the larger circle.
  3. Continue to glue smaller circles into the centers of the larger ones until you are satisfied with your flower design.
  4. Repeat this process to create as many flowers as you like.

Part 4: Adding Stems and Leaves

  1. Once your flowers are ready, choose a larger piece of construction paper to create your garden scene.
  2. Glue your flowers onto the construction paper.
  3. Now, it's time to add stems and leaves. You have two options:

a. Painting: Use green paint to add stems and leaves to your flowers.

b. Cut-out Method: Cut strips and leaf shapes from green construction paper. Glue the stems to the bottom of the flowers and add leaves along the stems.

Your Kandinsky-inspired flowers are now complete! You have successfully created a vibrant garden scene inspired by abstract art. Enjoy your masterpiece!
