DLTK's Educational Activities:  Aesop's Fables
The Crow and the Pitcher

aesop's fables

Once upon a time, in a dry and dusty land, a clever crow was flying in search of water. For hours, he soared over the parched earth, but no matter where he looked, he couldn't find a single drop to drink.

Just when the crow was about to give up hope, he spotted an ordinary pitcher lying on the ground. The pitcher was small, and there was only a little water left inside it, but the crow was so thirsty that he was willing to try anything.

The only problem was that the water level was too low for the crow to reach. He tried to stick his beak into the pitcher, but it was too narrow. He tried to tip the pitcher over, but it was too heavy.

The crow was about to give up when he had an idea. He flew over to a nearby rock and picked it up in his beak. Then he flew back to the pitcher and dropped the rock into the water. He did this again and again, dropping one rock after another into the pitcher, until the water had risen enough for him to drink.

The crow was overjoyed! He drank his fill of water and flew away feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. From that day on, whenever he was thirsty, he knew that if he ever found a pitcher again, he could use his clever trick to quench his thirst.

And so, the clever crow learned a valuable lesson:

With a little bit of creativity and persistence, even the most difficult problems can be solved.
