The Sweet Smelling Skunk by Artie Knapp

American Writer Artie Knapp was born in Chillicothe, Ohio, in 1973.  Knapp is a member of The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, and graduated from Ohio University.  He lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with his wife, Priya.  He has kindly provided a number of stories for me to share with you and I've added a few activities to compliment the story.

I found this story to be a good choice when teaching a science unit on how animals protect themselves.  Examples of animals you can study and crafts you can make for this are:

• skunk (spray), 
• chameleon (change color), 
• porcupine (quills), 
• bird (flight), 
• octopus (ink cloud), 
• zebra (herds), 
• turtle (shell), 
• rhinoceros (horn),
• tiger (claws/teeth)

These are just a few examples to get you started!
